Love is all around
for singer Marti

I didn't own a Marti Pellow album and would have struggled to name three hits by his former band, Wet Wet Wet. So to say that I was blown away by this charismatic performer's amazing singing voice was an understatement. Now, all that adulation makes perfect sense. It was clear most of the audience was better versed than me, with ripples of anticipation as superb backing musicians played familiar introductions to the Wets favourites Sweet Little Mystery, With A Little Help From My Friends and the inevitable finale, Love Is All Around. In between came more than two hours of pure class.
This tour is Marti back in charge of his own destiny. After a well-documented fall from grace, he's smiling again - and how. James Taylor's Line Them Up and Bobby Bland's Members Only interspersed with songs from his new album, Moonlight over Memphis, all delivered with precision. His easy going chat belies the effort that clearly goes into such a seamless performance. Ex-Squeeze singer Chris Difford, after a great pre-interval session of his own, joined him on stage for a Labour Of Love, a highlight in a fabulous show.
