SETLIST Get Ready Missing Sound I'm In The Mood Ain't No Stoppin Us Now Can't Stop Loving You I Wish (Stevie Wonder song) I've Been Around The World Still Standing Close To You With A Little Help From My Friends Goodnight Girl Summer Winds Miss Jones Members Only Love Is All Around |

'Only About The Songs' It was a bumpy start with at
first the cancelling of the gig, and the enormous disappointment.
Followed by surprise with the amazing development of the concert still
happening, although not at the castle but in Lincoln's Engine Shed!
Maybe not that big a place, but it could hold the 1600 fans who already
had a ticket and those lucky ones got their money back AND got Marti in
concert for FREE!The set-list was AMAZING! With 'Get Ready' to start with, Marti had the audience in the right frame immediately. He had a full band behind him, with piano, drums, gitarists, brass section, and three background singers. They all played like a team and were sounding amazing! Needles to say Marti's voice was stunning and like always when I am lucky to hear him live I am overwhelmed by the beauty of the sound and amazed about what he is capable of with his voice. 'Missing Sound' followed and it's such a soulful song, I was pleased Marti had chosen it. Then he started 'I'm In The Mood' and although I didn't know the song it REALLY got to me, what a sensual song especially the way Marti sings it, I was blown away by it! 'Ain't No Stoppin Us Now' is a great up-tempo song and you just can't stop dancing whilst hearing it. Marti's own song 'Can't Stop Loving You' has a warm soul sound and the song is one of my favorites from his latest album, so I was very pleased he had it on his list! Followed by Stevie Wonder's 'I Wish' again a song which makes you want to swing. The energy Marti shows is amazing and it's so enjoyable to see him all dancing all singing; there isn't a singer like him and he also has such a lovely personality. The enthusiasme he performs with is ever a pleasure to watch! I liked it very much that he did several of his own songs. 'I've Been Around The World' is not only a beautiful song with a great lyric, the end with the audience singing along and the band joining in again is fabulous. 'Still Standing' sounding incredible, it's a stunning song and Marti did 'Close To You' in it's original way, but with a fantastic rock ending. I love the mix of romance & beauty and rock & energy in one song! Marti was very kind to sing 'With A Little Help From My Friends' specially for the audience, he said 'let the song do the talking' The following Wet's 'Goodnight Girl' is just such a beautiful song! No doubt Marti turns every song to a higher level anyway, because he has a stunning voice and he knows how to put emotion in. What is so special with him also,
is that he is able to move his
audience; he plays with the crowd. He really can touch people and they
move with
him in different moods and flows. 'Summer Winds' I love how
Marti sang it on tour in 2001, so I was a bit disappointed about this
jazz version; I don't prefer it that way. The next song, I really like,
although it's also jazz, is 'Mrs.
Jones' and the way Marti's enthusiasm takes posession of you is
incredible! It seems to me he really loves
singing this song and it suits his voice totally! Bobby Bland's 'Members Only' we knew from
Marti's latest tour in November and it was great he sang it again. It's
one of my favorites and listening to it one more time was amazing; I
had the time of my life! Marti's voice is ever effecting me, I don't
know a better one, nor a more beautiful sound! More than an hour and a
half later Marti was thanking the audience and saying goodbye. Of
course the crowd was desperate to get him back on stage and the place
was thundering with loud clapping, stamping with feet and calling him
back on. Thankfully he did after a while and he made a grand finale
singing the obvious 'Love Is
All Around', the biggest Wet's hit, and therefore not to be
missed in the
setlist. Definitely not my favorite song but a crowd-pleaser and a good
song to end the show with anyway, I suppose. Time had been flying and I
really didn't want this fabulous happening coming to an end, but alas
it had. I was grateful it HAD been happening anyway because Marti
was so determent to perform and did not want to let his fans down!!! :-)by Monique van Spellen (c) photos Erna van Andel |
